Birdman Sound Web page, March/April News, concerning the March 2003 CD release party. "Wow what a great set of music as the Golden Famile released their new and second CD entitled "Eastern, Cloudy" on The Music For Cats label last night at Bumpers. Despite a driving snow storm, the turnout was decent and Toronto's Blackeyes made the journey up the 401 unscathed. Both bands turned in great sets of inspired "slacker" country and I really think if you have not seen the Golden Famile you should do so the next time they perform. Their CD is most excellent and mixes in right at home with Will Oldam, Nina Nastasia and Howe Gelb..... great stuff!" Birdman Sound Web page, June News, concerning the June 2003 show with Asteroid No. 4. "Motherfucker what a hoedown at Bumper's on Sat. June 7th as Philly country psych rockers the Asteroid #4 blew into town. With Golden Famile on the bill it was a 110% haystack knockout. Golden Famile's "slacker country" sounds got the real small, but enthusiastic in the perfect mood. The Famile's live set comprised mostly songs from their excellent new album "Eastern Cloudy" on Music For Cats, and more than a few folks thought these locals could give Will Oldham or Neil Young a run for the money, myself included! I think it's unfortunate that given the supposed interest and resurgence in country and roots music around this hub that more people don't come out and see the Golden Famile. They got history, they got songs, they got chops and they are a great band. Brings up the theory that the "big" three acts in this genre locally appeal to a fairly trendy crowd who evidently don't give a hang about stuff they don't know. Ignorance is not a becoming quality, duh!! Just 'cuz you sport some flowery country shirt ya found at the goodwill, don't make ya no freakin' music fan okay?"
